Pressurization Units
Best Purging Systems Type Y and Type Z Pressurization Units are designed to protect electrical and electronic equipment installed in hazardous areas classified as Class I and Class II.
When connected to a protective gas supply, these units regulate, monitor, and maintain positive pressure within the protected enclosure, helping prevent the ingress of hazardous gases, vapors, or dust. The units are designed to meet or exceed major industry standards, including NEC (NFPA 70), NFPA 496, EN 50016, and IEC 60079-2 requirements.
Each Pressurization Unit features an integrated pressure regulator for setting enclosure pressure and a color-coded differential pressure indicator for clear visual monitoring. Selected vertical and horizontal configurations are also equipped with differential pressure switches that provide alarm or control signals in the event of enclosure pressure loss.
Type Z Applications
Type Y Applications
For Type Z pressurization systems, the hazardous area classification inside the enclosure can be reduced from Division 2 / Zone 2 to non-hazardous. This enables the use of general-purpose equipment within enclosures installed in Division 2 / Zone 2 hazardous locations.
For Type Y pressurization systems, the hazardous area classification inside the enclosure can be reduced from Division 1 / Zone 1 to Division 2 / Zone 2. This allows equipment rated for Division 2 / Zone 2 service to be used within enclosures located in Division 1 / Zone 1 hazardous areas.
Important Installation Requirements
For Type Z pressurization systems, the hazardous area classification inside the enclosure can be reduced from Division 2 / Zone 2 to non-hazardous. This enables the use of general-purpose equipment within enclosures installed in Division 2 / Zone 2 hazardous locations.
